Maybe it was because I was tired and the movie started at 10:00 at night. Maybe it was the qualities of my companion affecting my judgement. Or maybe this just wasn’t that good of a movie. Whatever the reasons, I wasn’t extremely impressed with the latest Marvel movie, Captain America – The First Avenger.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of Marvel movies in general and I understand that sometimes they have to be a bit corny in order to stay true to their comic book roots, but for the most part this movie was predictable and the humor was not up to par. Some of the action scenes were acceptable and in general, the movie was well made, but it didn’t quite hit the spot. I struggled to keep myself awake around 3/4ths of the way through.
I noticed that on the Amazon page (linked to above) it gives second billing to Samuel L. Jackson. This is a bit humorous since he shows up for about a 10 second cameo at the end. Obviously this is only to set up his Nick Fury character for upcoming movies, but I’m not sure that he should be advertised as “being” in this movie. As expected, Stan Lee made his cameo, which I almost missed whilst trying to keep my eyes open.
It was a great end to the movie when my companion struggled to bridle his laughter, directed at a fellow viewer who apparently was really engrossed in the corny banter and verbally voiced his astonishment at a late movie revelation. I’ll just leave it at that.
